3 DC Characters Who’d Be Great In Slots

arrowverseIf you’ve ever heard of the developer Playtech, chances are it’s because of their phenomenal Marvel-themed slots such as “The Avengers”, “Iron Man” and “Spider-Man: Attack of the Green Goblin”. For a long while, Playtech were THE Marvel guys, making a slot out of basically every single Marvel movie that had come out in the last 15 years, from “X-Men” and “Daredevil” to “Thor” and “Captain America”, and even quite a few slots that were just based on the comics and not on an actual movie, like “Wolverine”. And most of them were great! They were interesting, they were fun to play, they had a really cool shared jackpot between them, and last, but not least, they were very well made! Unfortunately, Disney (who own Marvel) have a notorious anti-gambling stance, and the moment Marvel were bought by them we all knew the inevitable was around the corner. With their contract expiring, Playtech found themselves unable to make slots based on the newer Marvel movies, like “Ant-Man” or “Guardians of the Galaxy”. But fear not! Warner Bros, who own DC Comics, stepped in and immediately filled in the void in both the market and our hearts. A few months ago it was announced that Playtech would be developing slots based on DC properties, such as the 1960s “Batman” TV series, and recently it was confirmed that the latest DC movies like “Batman V Superman” and “Suicide Squad” would also be converted into slot form, which is great news! But they’re reaching out for the low-hanging fruit here. I say, if Playtech have the rights to be making slots based on any DC property they want, they should reach really deep and do some stuff that doesn’t have a multimillion dollar movie coming out, but would still be amazing! Stuff like…

1. The Bat-Family

Yeah, yeah, everyone knows Batman. We’ve already got at least 3 slots starring him, and we’re getting at least 3 more as part of the deal. We get it, Batman is one of the most popular characters in… Anything, and you want to milk that. I understand, but there are a lot more characters who aren’t Batman, yet are still related to him and deserve a day in the spotlight! Characters like Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, Batgirl, Batwoman, Oracle, and let’s not forget Alfred, the loyal butler who holds the whole family together! Make a slot about those guys! Have a Legacy bonus, with the mantles of Robin and Batgirl being passed down through the generations and changing the types of rewards you get! Add some kind of bonus game that activates when you’re able to collect the symbols of all members of the Bat-family! Come on, you guys, this slot basically designs itself!

2. The Arrowverse

Warner Bros’ deal with Playtech very explicitly states that the developer also has the rights to the company’s TV properties… Which is kind of weird because the only slot that makes use of them at all is the one based on the 1960s “Batman” TV series, which isn’t exactly something that’s super popular right now. You know what IS popular, though? The Arrowverse, consisting of “Arrow”, “The Flash”, “Legends of Tomorrow”, “Vixen”, “Constantine”, “Supergirl” (sort of) and, soon enough, “Black Lightning”. Yes, all of these shows exist in the same universe (again, sort of – Supergirl’s on her own Earth, but she comes by to visit whenever she can), and you know what that means! That’s right, they’re prime for the slot treatment! With so many unique characters, you basically have infinite possibilities. This can be DC’s version of the “Avengers” slot (you know, besides the “Justice League” slot, which was already confirmed), with each different character having a bonus and a symbol. Green Arrow shows up randomly and shoots several of the symbols, turning them into Wilds, The Flash can create wild reels by running across them, Supergirl blasts unnecessary symbols with her hear vision to give you better wins, that kind of thing! So many possibilities!

3. Booster Gold & Blue Beetle

Now, this is the slot that I’m absolutely 100% certain will never, ever get made, and for good reason – nobody’s heard of these characters before! I mean, the Blue Beetle? That sounds like a bad guy on The Tick, not a REAL superhero we’re supposed to be taking seriously! But trust me, these two guys are awesome. Booster Gold is basically this loser from the future where everyone and their mother has superpowers due to advances in technology. Not content with being just a regular dude, he uses a time machine to go back to the early 21st century, where he passes himself off as a bona fide superhero and makes a killing by doing endorsement deals in the middle of his superheroics. Blue Beetle is his best friend, and he’s a lot more traditionally heroic than his scummy counterpart, which makes the two of them play off of each other flawlessly. Anything with these two is basically like a buddy cop movie – “Hey, come on, the city’s getting destroyed, take it more seriously!” “Alright, alright, but only because otherwise nobody would buy my products!” And in an era of dark, gritty superheroes who fight amongst each other, kill hundreds of thousands of civilians due to carelessness and have very little light or optimism in their lives, maybe a little bit of energy, positivity and humor is exactly what we need, even if it’s in a slot form.
